When all is gone you realize...
It's Better at Home
In our last lesson we discussed how the prodigal son asked for his inheritance and went and spent it on excessive living - living the life. We find him in the midst of a famine in a far away country with nothing left to spend - desolate and without basic necessities. In this foreign land we find him in the following situation:
Luke 15: 15-19
He went to work for a man in that country, and the man sent him out to take care of his pigs. He would have been glad to eat what the pigs were eating, but no one gave him a thing. Finally, he came to his senses and said, "My father's workers have plenty to eat, and here I am, starving to death! I will go to my father and say to him, `Father, I have sinned against God in heaven and against you. I am no longer good enough to be called your son. Treat me like one of your workers.' "
In this lesson we are discussing spiritual runaways. God is our heavenly father and sometimes we find ourselves in the same situation as the prodigal son. We go out on our own trying to enjoy the secular and materialistic life. We end up without and away from God - in a distant land.
Then we have to go to work for less than we're worth. This young man had to work taking care of pigs. Do you feel as though you are in a situation where you have to take care of a mess? Does Satan have you taking care of pigs? When we leave God we are sometimes forced to circumstances underneath our potential. The son desired the slop for the pigs. That wasn't even given to him.
Then he had the golden moment that many of us have experienced. He came to his senses. It was better at home. He would have a better life as a worker at his father's house. When we have done all we can do we come to the realization that it is better at home. However, with God, we don't feel worthy to even be called a child of God. That's the guilt Satan wants you to keep. "Why even go back to God after all you have done? You left him, remember!? You aren't worthy to be his child. He probably doesn't want to have you back anyway."
Don't listen to his manipulation. Get from around the pigs he wants you to take care of it. That does not have to be your destiny. See what your Father has to say. Would his arch enemy tell you the truth about him? Think about it. Come to your senses... it's better at home.
